  • ferry is docking in the harbor of Mytilene, Lesvos. It was the main way of transportation to the mainland for the thousands of migrants and refugees that came to the island. They cannot leave Lesvos, many of them wait for their status to be determined for most the Island is their final station, a dead end.

  • The Island was effected by massive waves of refugees in the past as well. The statue of the "Asia Minor Mother" is found on<br />
the waterfront of Epano Skala, in the Islands capital, Mytilene. It commemorates the arrival of christian refugees that<br />
were banished from Asia Minor (Modern Turkey) by force in 1922, and were forced to seek shelter on the Greek island of Lesvos.

  • A U.N second stage refugee camp stands mostly empty in northern Lesvos. Its main function was to provide first treatment to those who arrive on the island such as medical aid and dry clothing. After in recent week only sporadic arrivals have been documented, its current tenants are a local cleaning lady and a U.N security guard.

  • A fisherman is picking a fishing net on his boat at the small harbor of Skala Sikamineas. The small fishermen village was a landing point for hundreds of arriving refugees, with many of its people giving aid to the new uncalled guests. A woman managing a charity organization in the north of the island said that due to the current economic condition it is uncertain if those acts of solidarity will reoccur.
